SkinPen

SkinPen is a safe, easy and effective treatment that stimulates your skin’s natural ability to
produce new collagen and elastin.  SkinPen is a medical-grade, state-of-the-art precision tool that
works by creating a series of “micro-channels” in the dermis of the skin.  These channels
stimulate the skin to produce new collagen and elastin for a healthier, youthful look.
SkinPen’s advanced micro-channeling process stimulates new collagen and elastin production,
which can reverse years of sun damage, improve acne scars, and minimize wrinkles. All with
little or no downtime!

Conditions SkinPen is designed to treat:

  • Acne Scars
  • Fine Lines
  • Hyper-pigmentation from sun damage
  • Pore Size
  • Wrinkles

Am I a good candidate for SkinPen?

SkinPen has a wide range of uses and can treat a variety of skin issues, including acne scars, sun
damage, and stretch marks. It can be used on any skin area that needs cell regeneration or intense
repair.  Patients who have ethnic skin include African Americans, Chicanos, Latinos, and Asians
who might not be good candidates for ablative lasers are good candidates for SkinPen.

Is SkinPen just for your face?

Though often used on the face, SkinPen can be used on all parts of the body. For example, dark
spots on the backs of your hands, acne scars on your back, or stretch marks on your abdomen and
legs could all be treated with SkinPen.

How does SkinPen work?

To prep, your skin, a thin layer of topical anesthetic cream is applied to your skin to make the
procedure comfortable. After the skin is numb, a gel is applied so that the SkinPen can glide over

the skin. A sterile, disposable cartridge containing 12 tiny micro-needles is attached to the tip of
the SkinPen, and the appropriate setting is chosen for the area being treated. Then, SkinPen is
glided over the area targeted for repair in a gentle motion. The individualized settings help to
minimize discomfort and to maximize effectiveness based upon the individual’s goals.

How long does a SkinPen treatment take?

Though it varies depending upon the size of the area being treated and the severity of the skin
damage, the SkinPen procedure generally takes 15 to 30 minutes.

Will I have any downtime or side effects?

This will be dependent on the intensity level of the treatment which is determined prior to the
treatment.  For less aggressive treatments, your skin will have a pink glow immediately
following your SkinPen treatment, our providers and staff will recommend products to help your
skin’s natural healing. Generally, these patients experience “pinkness” for two to four days, but
some patients heal completely within 24 hours.  For more aggressive treatments, there might be
some swelling in addition to the pinkness that may take 3-5 days to resolve.

How long do I have to wait to see results?

Though many patients start to see healthier looking skin almost immediately, your skin’s natural
repair process will progress over the course of several weeks. Collagen regrowth takes time, and
you will continue to see improvement for up to six months after your final treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

The general recommendation is that patients receive a series of three SkinPen treatments that are
spaced about a month apart. For facial skin rejuvenation, 3-5 treatments are often required for
optimal results.  For acne scars, stretch marks, deep wrinkles, or other forms of deeper damage,
six to eight SkinPen treatments scheduled four to six weeks apart are recommended.
